Fireproof Lockers A Must

On the way home from school today, I had a hilarious conversation with my ten year old daughter Mary Katherine (also known as MK) which left me in stitches. Went something like this:

Me: MK, how much homework do you have?

MK: Oh I have about 3 things. (twiddling hair, looking out window). One isn’t due until Monday though so I can wait a bit.

Me: Why not do it tonight so you have the weekend off?

MK: (quiet for a second then says) you know that’s not a half bad idea.

Me: Well imagine that. I’m glad I come up with some good ideas now and again

MK: I’ll do it and then leave it in school in my locker

Me: Why your locker?

MK: Because our house or school may catch fire and that way my homework will be safe. You know we have fireproof lockers.

Me: Our house or school catch on fire? Why on earth would that happen? I hope that never happens at either place!

MK: Me neither but Mrs. Grandela (her teacher) is always telling us she’s going to light a fire under us to get us moving so I thought there was a possibility.

I almost wrecked I was laughing so hard. Kids!

Loving The Post Summer Quiet Time

Thank God the kids are back in school, trying to find ways to keep them occupied while I work during the summer is stressful. On one hand I love hitting the pool and hanging out with them but on the other, I also feel guilty not working. I know I’m not alone on this one.

We’re expecting a major storm this weekend, Hurricane Hanna is working her way up the east coast and is expected to dump some much needed rain here. Our lawn looks like crap and my peach trees are wilting, even with watering daily they need rain. Nothing beats a good downpour to fix what ails the yard.

I love weather. Sounds silly when you say it that way but I love to listen to the rain and the wind howl, or see frost on the grass. I don’t even mind the humidity we get here, it’s good to sweat out the toxins and the build up of crap in my system. I consume massive amounts of Diet Coke each day which means tons of aspertame is floating around in me.

I have been cutting back however, I do a bottled water after each soda I drink. My goal is to cut back to two diet cokes a day and do club soda the rest of the time. We’ll see how that goes.
